Miss Jen Bookhout

Miss Jen Bookhout is in her first year at CSW. She serves as the CSW Director of Communications and teaches Upper School Rhetoric/Composition and Journalism classes. Prior to joining the CSW family, she worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant in the Elliott School of Communication at Wichita State University.

Miss Bookhout earned her Bachelor of Arts in Communication, with an emphasis in journalism and her Master of Arts in Communication at Wichita State University. After completing her undergrad, she worked for Times Sentinel, Inc., a multiple publication newspaper organization based in Cheney, Kansas. When she returned to WSU to earn her master’s degree, she taught Public Speaking as a Graduate Teaching Assistant. She also has experience in the medical field and hospitality industry.

Miss Bookhout is a Wichita native. She attends Newspring Church, and serves part-time on staff as a childcare provider. In her free time, she enjoys reading, persuading others to enjoy reading, crafting, making things pretty, occasional photography and blog-style writing. More often than she’d like to admit, she indulges in TV and Netflix binges, long naps with her two cats and borderline-obsessive home reorganizing sessions.

Miss Bookhout spent much of her life insisting she would never teach; however, when given the opportunity to teach her own class at WSU, she discovered a passion for it.

“My life would not be the same today if it weren’t for a small handful of teachers who made it their life’s work to inspire and encourage their students in life’s pursuits,” she said. “I want to be the kind of teacher who encourages students to find their God-given gifts, work hard, believe in themselves and invest in others. I want to remain in the background and shine the light on students. I want to see them succeed and find peace and joy in life.”

Miss Bookhout is excited to grow and learn as a teacher, and cannot wait to see what her first year of teaching at CSW holds in store.
